The Santa Calls service has been discontinued due to the launch of a new initiative to benefit New Zealand children in need.
In the past Santa Calls has been sponsored by Cookie Time Christmas Cookies. This year however, Christmas Cookies is aiming to raise $250,000 to help New Zealand children and has needed to refocus its resources towards that goal.
The funds raised will go to Cookie Time Charitable Trust to support Assistance Dogs New Zealand plus other Trust initiatives, including ongoing sponsorship of Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand.
Assistance Dogs New Zealand is unique in training dogs to support children, with 90% of its clients being under 12 years old. The most common need provided for is autism – helping children stay safe and calm in new environments and build relationships in social settings.
This focus on children aligns with Cookie Time Charitable Trust’s own mission of helping New Zealand children discover their gifts. Since establishment in 2003, more than $1.6 million has been raised to support initiatives in three areas: innovation in learning, thinking differently and physical pursuits. The donation from this year’s Christmas Cookies sales will provide a further boost to this work.
